Bio:
Born in Hamra Ras Beirut in 1982.
Sarah is a landscape architect and urbanist with 15-year professional international experience.
She has worked in Beirut, London, New York City, and Philadelphia, on public space master plans, urban wilderness, mobility, street lighting and landscape heritage conservation to improve people’s experience of space.
She is currently part-time faculty at the department of landscape architecture of the American University of Beirut (AUB) where she teaches the undergraduate final year design studio.
Also, she presently serves on the research and consulting team to design ‘Allo Beirut’ an exhibition projected for 2022 at the Beit Beirut Museum, advising on the urban history of Beirut.
In 2019, she co-founded the School of Architecture ECAR at the University Saint-Joseph in Beirut (USJ), where she thought between 2019 and 2021. She was consulted on several landscape planning projects in Lebanon, most recently the UNDP post August 4TH blast recovery project in Karantina.
She is a founding member of the award winning Dalieh Campaign (Samir Kassir Skyes Wajih Ajouz award 2015), the Lebanese Coast Alliance, and was active with the Save Bisri Campaign arguing for the significance of the valley as a cultural landscape, in addition to participating to campaigns such as the ‘Stop the Fouad Boutros highway’ to protect heritage of the Hikmeh/Sagesse area in Achrafieh in 2012.
Sarah is a published author on themes of landscape memory and borderlands and regularly collaborates to art projects.
She serves as vice president of the Arab States for the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) international scientific committee on ‘Water and Heritage’ and was previously ICOMOS Lebanon executive board secretary general.
She is committed to and politically active with the October 17th, 2019, revolution, and has been a friend and ally of Beirut Madinati since 2016.
She holds degrees from the American University of Beirut, the London School of Economics and Political Sciences LSE, the Graduate School of Design Harvard GSD, and the University of Pennsylvania UPenn.
