Bio:
Ms. Aoun completed a doctorate degree in public health and development, a Master of Science degree in population studies, and a Bachelor of Science degree in environmental health. She also completed many advanced courses like in field epidemiology, in leadership, and in emergency preparedness and disaster management. She has twenty-five years of experience in planning, executing, monitoring and evaluating community development projects using right-based approaches and bridging public health and development, based on community needs assessments, community respect, and community participation. She has contributed to the development of the school health program in the Ministry of Education in Lebanon and other Arab countries. She is member of the international campaign to ban landmines and of the coalition against cluster munitions. She contributed to the development of mine action strategies, curricula and programs on explosive ordnance risk education and on mine victim assistance in Lebanon and different Arab countries. She has worked on issues related to children, youth, and the elderly. She has also been involved in projects on gender and disability, gender auditing, women’s economic empowerment, disability, elimination of the worst forms of child labor, illiteracy eradication and adult learning, and education in emergency. She has also worked on the humanitarian response to the Syrian crisis, to the Covid-19 pandemic, and to other humanitarian crisis in the Arab region. She has worked on risk communication and community engagement, on health promotion including water, sanitation, and hygiene promotion, on ethical issues in community practice, and all issues related to development and social determinants of health with an emphasis on promoting roles of municipalities in local development and public health. Work involves conducting trainings after producing training manuals, guidelines, training materials, and awareness materials. Ms. Aoun is currently the director of the Department of Community Engagement at the Faculty of Health Sciences of the University of Balamand.
